A senior police sergeant was heard panicking after being probed by police over allegations the theft of her car was faked for an insurance pay out, a court has heard.
Karen Yerbury allegedly obtained a $30,571 insurance settlement after faking the theft of her Mazda CX-5 along with her alleged accomplices – her daughter’s athletics coach Gavin Dunn and his associate Glenn Stone in February 2018.
Her daughter Regan Yerbury, a former NRL cheerleader, and the two men allegedly tried to fake the theft of the same vehicle in May 2017 only for officers to then find and return the car, police will allege.
Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court heard Karen Yerbury panicked when detectives rang her to say Dunn was suspected of taking the car, with her reaction recorded by a secret surveillance bug.

A recording of Ms Yerbury showed her panicking after the call with detectives when she could not get through to Regan.
‘God, I am in s**t, okay,’ she said in the recording played in court, according to the St George Shire Standard.
‘Oh what am I going to do guys, I’m in poo. Too much, too much, too much – she’s not answering the phone, what am I going to do?’
She than called Regan’s father for help and told him ‘I’m under investigation for fraud’.
At that point in the investigation, Crown Prosecutor Heidi Cantor said the mother would not have had any reason to believe she was under investigation.
Karen Yerbury and Glenn Stone have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them – which include attempting to dishonestly obtain a financial advantage through deception.
