The Reclaim UK founder has called out Labour politicians for showing “hatred” toward the British flag in a new campaign video to mark St George’s Day. Mr Fox is running to unseat Labour’s Sadiq Khan in the race for Mayor of London. The former actor has placed patriotism and “British values” front and centre of his platform, and this latest video sees Mr Fox vow to “reclaim” the Union Jack for Londoners.
“Now look,” says the former Lewis star directly into the camera.
“I know that St George was a Turkish immigrant; toad in the hole comes from Libya; that sausage and mash is from Turkmenistan and that roast beef is actually from France.
“And we all know that there is only one truly British, English dish.
“And this is chicken tikka masala.”
Mr Fox continues: “So why does our flag send Labour politicians and most Conservative politicians into paroxysms of hatred?
“And they call us flag shaggers and stuff like that?
“And I think, I don’t know is the answer.
“It’s a hatred of the nation. And I don’t think that’s right.”
It is not the first time Mr Fox has waved the Union Jack in his bid to become Mayor of London.
At the Reclaim UK manifesto launch earlier this month he pledged to have the flag flying outside every school.
Mr Fox said: “It is totally unacceptable to have a position whereby the flag of our country is not allowed to fly above public buildings.”
His remarks came after a school in Pimlico announced plans to stop flying the Union Jack following protests from students.
