A baby has been rushed to hospital after the car they were travelling in was sandwiched between a truck and a Volkswagen on a busy freeway.
The truck slammed into the back of the silver Toyota Corolla on Thursday afternoon at the Robinson Road off-ramp of the Western Freeway in Derrimut, in Melbourne’s west, about 1.30pm.
Seconds later, the Corolla crumpled as it hit the rear of a Volkswagen Golf.

The female Corolla driver, in her 30s, was rushed to hospital with serious upper and lower body injuries.
Her one-year-old passenger was also taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Another passenger was trapped inside the Corolla before emergency services arrived and removed them.
A baby seat, infant formula, a teddy bear, and chunks of broken car were strewn across the road.

The accident caused major delays along the freeway, with traffic backed up for several kilometres (pictured)
The male driver of the Volkswagen was also taken to hospital as a precaution, along with the truck driver who had mandatory blood tests.
