Babysitter, 28, is charged with murdering nine-month-old baby boy who suffered ‘severe injuries’

A babysitter has been charged with the murder of a nine-month-old baby boy who was in his care.  

The baby was found unresponsive after police were called to a home in Sandy Spring, Georgia, on Wednesday, March 31.  

According to police, Dehaven Johnson, 28, was babysitting the infant. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding the baby’s death are not clear, and it’s not clear who called the officers to the home.

An autopsy report revealed that the nine-month-old suffered ‘severe injuries, and it’s alleged Johnson was responsible.  

Johnson was charged with felony murder, first-degree cruelty to children and aggravated battery.  

Police have not revealed the baby boy’s identity.  

Johnsons’ arrest is the second in four months involving a babysitter charged with murder in Sandy Springs.

In December 2020, Sandy Springs police charged Kirstie Flood with malice murder in the death of a tw-year-old child in her care. 

Her boyfriend, Jeffrey Scott Meyers, 28, was charged with second degree murder and cruelty to children in connection to the death as well. 

According to Atlanta News Now, a medical examiner ruled the child she was caring for had died from blunt force trauma.
