Disgusting moment raw sewage seeps onto Bondi Beach as surfers ignore warning signs – but Sydneysiders joke it’s a POSITIVE change to the ‘s**thole’ suburb
- Sydney’s Bondi Beach was affected by sewage overflow on Monday afternoon
- Residents were told to avoid the area while the area was cleaned-up
- Video posted to social media showed sewage overflow gushing onto the sand
The disgusting moment sewage water gushed down a set of stairs and onto the sands of Sydney’s Bondi Beach has been captured on camera.
A video of the wastewater leaking onto the beach as surfers walked nearby was posted to social media on Monday afternoon with the caption ‘ahh the smell of raw sewage… takes me back to the old days’.
The dirty water then filled the sand as it flowed down towards the ocean where dozens of surfers were awaiting their next wave.

A sign had been placed on the beach by Sydney Water warning residents to avoid the area because of the sewage overflow.
‘This area may be affected by sewage overflow,’ the Sydney Water sign said.
‘We are monitoring water quality and cleaning the area and apologise for any inconvenience. We advise you to avoid the area.’
Nearby residents reported a disgusting smell emanating from the sewage leak, although some joked ‘what a sh*thole’ and ‘yeah Bondi’s beautiful alright’, with one even saying tounge-in-cheek the wastewater was a ‘positive addition to the community’.

In October last year swimmers were told not to swim at the southern end of nearby Bronte Beach after sewage was detected in the water, caused by an overflowing sewer.
Sydney Water found the contamination at Bronte’s Bogey Hole, a natural rock pool which forms a sheltered swimming area for young children.
On the same day swimmers were ordered out of the water at the Murray Rose Pool at Double Bay’s Redleaf Beach due to sewage contamination caused by a blocked toilet.
