Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell was allegedly bombarded with racially abusive messages on social media last weekend – leading to charges against two men.
Mitchell earlier this week informed the NRL Integrity Unit he had received numerous offensive and ‘racially charged’ social media messages.
The Integrity Unit forwarded those complains to police, who on Friday arrested a 22-year-old Taree man and a 25-year-old Lake Munmorah man.
Both men were charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

Latrell Mitchell was among Rabbitohs players to meet singer Rita Ora (pictured) when she visited the club this week after striking up a friendship with actor and co-owner Russell Crowe
Investigators from the NSW Police Fixated Persons Unit also seized electronic devices for further examination.
Both men were granted bail to appear in NSW courts next month.
Mitchell was hit with a four-match NRL suspension for a dangerous contact charge against West Tigers winger David Nofoaluma in last weekend’s game.
He leads the Dally M race after six rounds, but is now ineligible after copping a ban of more than two matches.
He will also now return just two weeks before Origin teams are named, with only games against Penrith and Parramatta available to impress Blues coach Brad Fittler.
The 23-year-old has previously been targeted with offensive messages leading him to consider quitting the NRL.
He revealed in a 2020 interview that he had been close to walking away from the sport the previous year and getting a different job out of the spotlight.
Mitchell had been leading the Dally M count until his four game ban
